I teach strings and vocals privately and hold workshops and community groups. I also work part time as a freelance musician and facilitator at pre-school music provider Curiouser.
I’ve always enjoyed working with children and young people and after my Art History Bachelor’s degree and a slew of tremendously underpaid bar jobs, I moved into the sphere of education in 2019. I worked in a PRU, Autism Specialist School and as an SEN TA focusing on SEMH: adapting work, social integration; art, movement and/ or conversation-led interventions; working with class teachers, OPs and Speech & Language therapists, supporting Year 5 throughout the year. Also as supply across primaries and secondaries. I took part in various training programs related to safeguaring, SEND, and inclusion.
I was researching psychology and pedagogy at the time with particular interest in somatic and art/ creative therapies. I was practising a lot of yoga, learning about anatomy, the nervous system, trauma and how it shows up in body and behaviour. I took a Level 2 in Counselling and learned about proper, ethical practise; becoming
determined to find out how best to support my students holistically. It must surely involve mind and body; relationships and the larger community… I continue to explore, learn, implement and revise how to make learning environments more embodied, accessible, more compassionate, inspiring…
I tutored English and Maths for the charity Get Further and provided academic and pastoral support to teenagers and adult learners – many of whom ESL/ immigrant/refugee students, teaching Functional Skills and Higher GCSE curriculum. During the pandemic I volunteered at a primary school I was working at to co-organise a ‘Emergency Childcare Provision’ (for children of key-workers, SEND students, etc.) and personally led daily yoga, sports, art and PSHE sessions, which was invaluable for the children, parents and staff alike; providing structure and a community support network during an extremely turbulent time. Since then, I’ve taught Early Years music in a range of settings; tutored violin to children and adults; rediscovered my passion for music, theory and performance – this time with a grounding in education and community wellbeing.
Currently teaching privately in London.
